I know you are always hearing that, and then there is usually a catch. Well, on this site there just isn't. What better and quicker way can a person on-line make a difference? What have you got to lose?
The hunger site is set up through sponsors (on-line companies like Sprint, etc) who pay money to the site for each individual click they receive that day. 95% of the money earned goes to help needy people around the world. I cannot think of a better cause than people needing to eat. It is a basic human right. It disgusts me that there are children in our country alone who do not know where their next meal is coming from. IF you think it does not effect those around you, you are WRONG. I teach at a middle school, and there are many kids whose favorite times of the day are breakfast and lunch because there IS NO dinner for them when they get home. And I do not live in some obscure place, I live in Southwestern Virginia.
The site loads up quickly and ALL you have to do is click the button in the center of the page. It records that a person has been there, and you can go on your merry way. No registration, no passwords, no links, no waiting.
Along the left side are other areas of the site to explore if interested (though this does not have an impact on the donation - just topics of interest). These include: HOME, DONATION TOTALS, HUNGER FACTS, TRANSLATIONS, FAQ, PRESS RELEASES, ODDS & ENDS, SPONSORS, and CONTACT. I like to check the donation totals; it lists how many people clicked for that day and how much food was given. Also, I like the idea that the site is available to people of other nations and languages, making it seem more like a world-wide community. I thought the Odds & Ends were neat. There were letters from people thanking them for creating the site. I also have from time to time checked out the sponsors; I figure if they are taking the time to help, I can take the time to look into their business.
I suggest just going to this site once, just check it out. With all the time you spend reading and writing opinions alone, you probably have an extra 10 seconds to make a difference.
